THINGS TO LOOK OUT FOR WHEN SHOPPING FOR A NEW LAPTOP!!

As a student if I was looking to buy a laptop for my course I would consider the following aspects:

1. Brand: I would consider the brand of the machine because some brands are more reliable than others in terms that it won’t break down easily and durability as well.

2. Price: I would consider the price of the PC because as a student it is very difficult to purchase a top class laptop and so we have to make a reasonable limit of how much we have to spend from our budget e.g. from about €200-€500 tends to be a reasonable limit.

3. Wireless Connection: I would consider this because it is important for research purposes and it tends to be easier if the laptop has wireless capabilities so that you can connect anywhere on the go.

4. Security: I would consider a high preference on security because when your new PC is infected with viruses and Trojans it can have a massive impact on your files and also the systems on your laptop. It can delete your work or projects and can make the entire system crash. So a good security is important to prevent all these problems and keep the system secure.

5. Speed: I would consider a laptop with decent or high speed by getting one of the latest processors speed and RAM the higher they are the faster the laptop is. My laptop 3GB of RAM which means it is really good in terms of speed and there will be even better ones out as well.

6. Memory: Always consider the amount of memory the PC contains before purchasing it because as a student it would be important to have a lot of memory on the laptop to store a number of files, music, videos etc. This will prevent us from having small limited memory and forcing us to delete old files to replace them with new ones.

DO APPS IN MOBILE PHONES CHANGE THE WAY WE USE THEM?

When the first mobile phones where made they were originally used to make phone calls and send text messages. Years later, music capabilities entered, as well as gaming opportunities such as the “snake” “Tetris” and “blocks”. The screen in those phones didn’t have any colour apart from dark green screen with black. After that the chance to view the screen in colour then later take pictures and send them to your contacts became available as technology progressed.

That was impressive then. Now all of these features and more come as standard on most mobile phones. Many users would even turn up their nose at a phone that didn't have Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, or one that couldn't do video calls with the phone. Some people wouldn't even touch a device that couldn't play TV shows and films. People are even basing their phone purchasing decision on what apps mobile phones have access to rather than anything else.

These days many phones have numerous applications such as internet access, GPS, TV, social networks, 3D games, motion sensor for many mini applications and effects etc. Whether you want quick access to maps to find the nearest post office, GPS to map your run, fun apps to make it look like you're swallowing a pint of lager or shaking a pack of Tic-Tacs or games that use your handset's technology to make the experience, apps can really change the way mobiles are being used.

This is a video about the many applications the Android phone contains, enjoy:

PLAYSTATION 3 THE NEXT GENERATION

The PS3 is a high powered technology on the market these days and even know to be even more powerful than most computers. The original Sony Playstation had been in since 1994 and is now even more famous than ever.

There are 13,000 video game titles available worldwide for PlayStation products, and more are released monthly. Sony plans to continue its market dominance with the latest version of its successful console, the PlayStation 3.

Sony designed the PlayStation 3 to be more than just a video game console. It supports all kinds of digital entertainment such as DVD, Blue-ray, Music, videos, online features, internet access etc. It is basically a home-entertainment computer. This computer is made with a specially designed CPU called the Cell processor. Sony, Toshiba and IBM worked together to develop the Cell processor. It's their answer to the growing trend toward multi-core processing, in which manufacturers place as many processors as possible onto one chip.
In comparison to the most powerful PC’s CPU available in from 2005 the $1,000, dual-core Pentium Processor Extreme Edition, just barely breaks the 200-million-transistor mark.

How it affects our minds?

In this new generation a computer like that would attract the interest of millions and would be great on the market but how does a machine affect the way we should think about our needs or wants? Companies keep advancing their products and use the media to manipulate our thinking process and therefore we end up with the urge or temptation to purchase a product. A machine like the PS3 has changed the lifestyle of millions of customers as many would spend over 50 hours a week just playing games on the console.

Sleep Disorders

This is a psychological posting on Sleep.
In Psychology lecture lecture I learned about the theories of sleep which is know as an innate biological rhythm that can never be entirely ignored. I also learned about the circadian rhythm, the four stages of sleep and also about dreaming. As humans we have a built-in biological clock that repeats about every 24 hours and it differs depending on each individual. Stage 1 would be the relaxed quiet sleep, Stage 2 would be the quiet, deeper sleep and stage 3 and 4 would be the sleep readying for the REM (Rapid eye movement) sleep which means that the person is dreaming. Even though Stage 3 and 4 are very similar with little difference it is know to be put together as a whole stage. Most of us really enjoy our sleep and also a high majority don't have the time to attain their normal sleep due to their situation or their environment. This might result to sleeping disorders such as insomnia (which means not being able to sleep or waking way too earlier than usual), Sleep apnea (means that the individual stops breathing when sleeping), Narcolepsy (which is the disturbance in the pattern of wakefulness and sleep, individual experiences an uncontrolable urge to fall asleep throughout the day) etc..

All these disorders can be attained through illnesses (can be in terms of genetics) and even through our conditioning that is caused by situations or our environment.

Here is a link to an animated presentation of a sleep lab with a participant and goes through the sleep stages and pattern waves of the brain when the participant is asleep. (https://pantherfile.uwm.edu/johnchay/www/PL06/SL/SL.html)
